Rule the Sky - King of the Air 2016: Among the riders competing for the title is our very own Flying Dutch Man Willem van der Meij. The Kota took place between January 30th and February 14th, in Cape Town South Africa.
The Escape V5 was Willem van der Meij’s weapon of choice at the Red Bull King of the Air this year. Both Willem and the Escape left a lasting impression on the judges, the crowd and his fellow competitors.
Willem van der Meij has won his heat against Steven Akkersdijk and Oli Sweeney and proceeds to round 3. In heat 13 he will ride against Aron Hadlow, Lewis Crathern, and Nick Jacobsen.
The Escape is built for the ambitious and experienced rider that performs hooked and unhooked freestyle tricks, and like high jumps and kite loops. The deep profile gives the kite a lot of grunt without sacrificing the upwind performance. This ensures you will stay in the competition box to perform more tricks in your heat. Great line slack for unhooked riding, explosive pop with great hang time and soft landings are attributes of the Escape v5.
Willem van der Meij had some spare time to throw some mega loops for our lense.
Willem got the crowd going crazy after winning his 2nd heat with some impressive megaloops , not bad for his first king of the Air. Video credits: Woosports
