It is the home of the strapless kitesurf movement and therefore no wonder that the first GKA tour stop of 2018 is hosted at the Island.
Already in the early morning riders and spectators gather at a what seems to be a windy but cold day at the notorious spot Ponta Preta. The spot nicknamed Ponta Cash is famous of its breath taking high waves and delivered equally famous kitesurfing champions. Local, kitesurf school owner and Peter Lynn Teamrider Elvis Nunes is well prepared for this kite party in his backyard. He has seen and rode it all and remains one of the legends of the Island.
Ponta Preta was firing big Swells from the early morning with riders from all over the world showing their skills in the heats during the day. Peter Lynn team rider Roderick Pijls who flew in to the Island for the GKA battled it out with Moroccan Ismail Addazone that resulted in a spectacular show of skills and board mastering.
Local and Peter Lynn Teamrider Elvis Nunes was in the heat number 8 with Gustavo (Spain) and Ricardo (Cabo Verde). On the first waves and for the first 5min elvis was riding calm without taking any risk and checking out the competition. The waves could have been a bit bigger for Elvis but on the last 2 waves where big enough and he blasted out a impressive hard and aggressive ride. He attacked the wave while the crowd cheered! Elvis after his heat: “Im not lucky with the set of waves. I would have preferred the bigger ones. Riccardo was riding really well good and I noticed that Gustavo is not yet used to the spot and needed to dail in” as Elvis continues. Elvis took the 1st place and passed straight to round 3.
Many of the riders that came to the island in the week before the event where not able to train because of the lack of wind and waves. The organisation, riders and local are thrilled that Ponta Preta is delivering now!
Elvis is ready for the 4th round to battle it out in heat 52. Lets see what Ponta Preta will deliver.
